Learning Outcomes in D2L
There are four types of learning outcomes that can be used in D2L to collect student learning data. Courses can use outcomes in any combination to meet data collection purposes:
- Essential Learning Outcomes (ELOs): Institution-wide learning goals that all students are expected to achieve through the educational experience, regardless of program or discipline.
- Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs): Program-level learning goals that define the knowledge, skills, and competencies expected upon completion of a degree, certificate, or pathway.
- Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs): Course-level learning goals that define the knowledge, skills, and competencies students are expected to achieve upon successful completion of a course, as outlined in the Concourse syllabus.
- Achievement Standards Network (ASN): A repository of standards and learning outcomes that can be imported into individual courses or master course shells.
Add Learning Outcomes to Courses
There are two methods to add learning outcomes in D2L:
- Course Mapping (Recommended): Departments add learning outcomes for courses into D2L through a coordinated Course Mapping process. Faculty interested in having a course mapped should contact the Center for Data Science or the Assessment Coordinator (see the Members tab).
- Instructor Added: To avoid duplicate work, instructors are strongly encouraged to contact eLearning or the Center for Data Science before manually adding learning outcomes to a course to determine whether the course is being mapped or has already completed the Course Mapping process.
