Creating Grade Categories and Items

Creating a New Grade Category
  1. From the Navigation Bar, select Grades.
    Course Nav Bar with Grades selected.
  2. Select Manage Grades.
    Grades edit options with Manage Grades selected.
  3. Select New, then select Category.
    New Menu with option category selected.
  4. Enter a Name for the category.
  5. Adjust the Grading and Display Options, as needed.
  6. Select Save & Close.
Creating a New Grade Item
  1. From the Navigation Bar, select Grades.
    Course Nav Bar with Grades selected.
  2. Select Manage Grades.
    Grades edit options with Manage Grades selected.
  3. Select New, then select Item.
    New menu with Item selected.
  4. Select the Grade Item Type you wish to use.

    Note:

    The most commonly used grade item type is Numeric.


    Numeric is the recommended Grade Item Type.
  5. Enter a Name and Date for the grade item.

    Best Practice:

    Grade item names should be the same as the assessment item it will be associated with to aid in locating and viewing specific grades in a course.

  6. Select a Category to associate the grade item with.
  7. Enter the Maximum Points allowed for the grade item.
  8. Select Save and Close.
