Accessibility in D2L
D2L is designed to meet web accessibility standards, offering tools to support both instructors and students in creating and engaging with accessible course content. These accessibility tools assist instructors during course creation, and provide students with resources within courses.
Alternative Formats for a Course File
Alternative Formats in D2L allow both instructors and students to access alternative formats (e.g., audio, epub, electronic braile) for course files, making content more accessible for diverse learning needs.
Alternative Text (Alt Text) for Images
When adding images through the HTML Editor, D2L prompts users to provide alt text, or descriptive text, to ensure visual content is fully accessible.
D2L Accessibility Checker
The D2L Accessibility Checker helps instructors create accessible HTML content created in D2L by scanning and identifying potential accessibility issues and offering suggestions for improvement.
Kaltura Multimedia Platform
The Kaltura integration in D2L provides instructors and students access to LCC’s Media Platform for creating, uploading and sharing media within D2L courses. Videos uploaded into the Kaltura platform are automatically closed captions and allow instructors to edit captions, add speaker labels and adjust timing to ensure video content is fully accessible.
ReadSpeaker
The ReadSpeaker integration in D2L provides instructors and students access to text-to-speech and reading/writing tools for listening to and interacting with uploaded documents and HTML webpages in D2L courses.
TextAid
The TextAid integration in D2L provides instructors and students access to a web-based, personal reading and writing support tool that supports written content both inside and outside of D2L.
