What's Changing?
What’s happening to email in D2L?
Starting May 13, 2026, D2L email will become send-only. You’ll still be able to send emails using tools like Classlist or Compose Email, but you’ll receive and reply to all emails in your LCC Gmail account, not in D2L.
Why is LCC making this change?
To reduce confusion and improve communication. Right now, students are expected to check both D2L and Gmail. By moving all replies and incoming messages to Gmail, everything’s in one place, making it easier to keep track.
What Do I Need to Do?
Is there anything that I can do now to be ready?
Yes! To make the transition easier, we recommend two quick actions:
- Set up email forwarding from your D2L account to your LCC Gmail. This ensures you start collecting D2L messages in Gmail now so nothing is lost before May 13, 2026.
- Manually save any important D2L emails (from your inbox, custom folders, or trash) by forwarding them to your Gmail before May 13, 2026. After that date, D2L will delete all stored messages, and LCC won’t be able to recover them.
What if I already have D2L email forwarding set up?
If you’re currently forwarding your D2L emails outside of D2L (e.g., to Gmail), you're all set, no need to change anything.
Why send email from D2L vs Gmail?
Do I have to use D2L to send emails?
No, you have the ability to compose and send messages from either Gmail or D2L. However, D2L offers the advantage of automatically including the course title and CRN in the subject line, making it easier to identify the course that email pertains to. Also, D2L always reflects your most current Classlist, so if you use D2L, you’ll have access to the most up-to-date roster for contacting your instructor and classmates.
Why should I still use D2L to send emails after May 13, 2026?
- It automatically includes your course title and CRN in the subject line (great for helping instructors identify your message).
- It connects to the up-to-date Classlist, ensuring emails to go the right instructors and students.
What happens when I reply to a message that started in D2L?
You will reply from your LCC Gmail, and the reply will go to your instructor’s LCC Outlook email. D2L will only used to send the first message.
