Quick Start Guide for Webex in D2L Courses

What is Webex in D2L?

Webex is an online communication and collaboration video-conferencing suite integrated into every D2L course. Webex is used to virtually meet with students in a secure, online setting.


How Instructors & Students Access Webex in D2L?

Instructors and students can access Webex, within each D2L course, by selecting Webex from the Communication menu.

  • Instructors will need to access Webex to schedule and start Webex sessions for each course.
  • Students will need to access Webex to join scheduled Webex sessions for each course.

Webex Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Instructors must have the role of “Instructor” in a course to host a Webex session in D2L.
  • Students will need to access Webex to join scheduled Webex sessions for each course.

Getting Started With Webex in D2L Courses

  1. Course Instructor schedules Webex session through the Webex Dashboard. Webex dashboard.
  2. Course Instructor notifies students of the dates/times of scheduled Webex sessions.
      Recommended methods for notifying students about scheduled Webex sessions:
    • Post an Announcement in D2L that include the date(s), time(s) and type (weekly lecture, office hours, etc.) of each of Webex session. Example of a session being scheduled.
    • Create a Course Webex Schedule that includes the date, time, and type of each Webex session. Share the schedule with students by: (1) Including the schedule in the Concourse syllabus, (2) Email the schedule to students, (3) Post the schedule in the Getting Started or Start Here folder in Content, and (4) Post the schedule to an Announcement.

Experiencing Connection Issues

    If your Webex connection seems slow:
  • Reduce bandwidth use by turning off webcams for all participants other than yourself.
  • Maximize your home internet or WiFi connection strength by positioning yourself near your WiFi router.
  • Close unnecessary applications on your computer.
  • If possible, ask others in your household who share your WiFi to avoid activities that will use up internet bandwidth (ie. streaming Netflix, Hulu, etc.) during the time of the Webex session.
