Creating a Screen Capture and Webcam Recording

  1. From the D2L My Home page, select My Media. My Media
  2. Select Add New, then select Kaltura Capture. NOTE: This will launch Kaltura Capture. If you’ve already installed Kaltura Capture, it will launch automatically. Visit Installing Kaltura Capture Software for instructions. From the Add New menu, select Kaltura Capture.
  3. From the Screen drop-down menu (arrow), select the screen(s) to capture.
    1. Select screen(s) to capture: From the drop-down menu, select the screen you wish to record. NOTE: If you only have one monitor only one screen will appear.
    2. Select area to capture: Select the area to capture Full Screen or Select Area:
      • Full Screen allows you to capture the entire screen.
      • Select Area allows you to capture a specific area of the screen.
      Select the Screen icon to display the drop-down menu and make your selections.
  4. From the Webcam drop-down menu (arrow), select the webcam you wish to use. Note: Verify that your webcam is activated. Select the Webcam icon to select the webcam you'd like to use.
  5. Verify the Microphone is on and the volume is turned up. The microphone is on if the icon doesn't have a strikethrough on it.
  6. Select Record to begin the recording. Notes:
    • Selecting record will initialize a 3 second countdown
    • The webcam will begin to record once the Record button is selected even though you cannot see is.
    Select the round, Record button to begin recording.
  7. Once the recording begins, the Kaltura Capture recorder menu appears and includes options to Stop, Pause/Resume, or Cancel the recording. Use the Kaltura Capture recorder to stop, pause or resume, and cancel the recording. Use the Annotation tools to draw and highlight items on the screen. Note: If this menu does not appear, select the Kaltura Capture recorder icon from the taskbar on your computer. From your computers task bar, select the Kaltura icon to bring the Kaltura Capture recorder to the front.
  8. When the recording is complete:
    1. Select Stop.
    2. Select Yes, Stop it. Select the Stop icon to end the recording, then confirm you wish to stop the recording.
  9. Modify the Title to a more meaningful title (i.e. CHEM100 Chapter 4 Lecture). Optional: Enter a description and/or tags.
  10. Select Save & Upload to add the recording to your Kaltura My Media gallery. Notes:
    • Recordings must be uploaded to the Kaltura My Media gallery in order to be embedded into a D2L course.
    • If you select Save instead of Save & Upload, your recording will be saved in the Kaltura Capture Library.
    • The file will not appear in My Media until it has been processed by the Kaltura server. The amount of time required to process will depend on the file size.
    Select Save and Upload to add the video to your My Media gallery in D2L.
  11. Select New Recording to begin another recording, or select the X to close the window.
