Google Share Settings

Folders and documents created in Google can be set to various levels of privacy and sharing. Share settings range from completely private, to completely open to the public.

  • Folders and documents created in or uploaded to Google Drive are set to “Private” by default.
  • Folder/Document owners must edit the share settings to allow other users access.
Note: Sharing the link to a Google folder/document will not allow an individual access to the folder or document unless it has proper share settings.
  • Users have the ability to share entire folders or individual documents.
  • Folder/Document owners control the level of access of each user:
    • Folder share options: Can organize, add, & edit, or Can view only.
    • Document share options: Can edit, Can comment, or Can view.
